Job Description

The USLI Accounting team is responsible for all areas relating to international financial reporting, general ledger, accounts receivable and accounts payable. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements; addressing tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities such as general ledger preparation, financial reporting and year-end audit preparation; as well as working under the direction of the Treasurer/Controller.


  • Assist in the preparation of statutory entity financial statements on both the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) basis of accounting along with the related note disclosures
  • Oversee daily accounting activities required to maintain the company's general ledger
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close
  • Ensure completion and review of all post-close reconciliations; ensure all balances are properly supported and documented
  • Manage the monthly intercompany reconciliation process
  • Maintain detailed records and files to document financial transactions and all journal entries
  • Collaborate with team members to support overall department goals and objectives
  • Evaluate department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy; recommend and implement techniques to improve the company’s productivity and increase efficiencies
  • Advise team members regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Prepare for and ensure a clean and timely year-end audit; prepare reports required by regulatory agencies
  • Must keep current with IFRS and U.S. GAAP accounting principles
  • Ensure the company's principles, policies and programs are followed
  • Support Treasurer/Controller with special projects and workflow-process improvements


Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and IFRS
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in insurance accounting, financial analysis or auditing
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work independently with little supervision
  • Collaborative team player
