Job Description
Exceptional people leadership to a team of developers who are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining systems at USLI.  Provide continuous and timely feedback (coach, celebrate, correct) relative to daily performance for a team of direct reports.  Collaborate with their team members on Individual Development Plans for professional and technical growth and goals, and conduct regular 1:1s and periodic performance reviews with each team member.  In addition, responsible for helping their team improve communication skills as well as technical skills.  Interact with other people leaders to identify development opportunities for their team members to enable learning and working at maximum efficiency.  Help team members learn to prioritize their workload and guide them so they ensure that requests for enhancements are clearly understood, in scope, and consistent with the company’s goals, and realistic in terms of value added in relation to time spent.  Work closely with the community and sometimes customers and customer’s customers to answer questions, analyze and discuss requests, communicate current status reports, gather necessary specifications, and negotiate scope of projects and timelines.  Set a daily example for the entire Information Technology Team in striving to meet our Community Goals.  Need to understand multiple USLI product lines, understand and encourage team members to follow team fundamentals when delivering systems to the community and our customers.  Support our software development best practices and encourage team members to embrace programming design discipline.  Participate in interviewing new developer candidates, including college help candidates.  Make deadlines and commitments.  Encourage and assist each developer in pursuing to learn insurance and the USLI business model.  Encourage and assist each developer in pursuing to learn emerging technologies.
College degree/technical certifications or equivalent industry/technical experience. 6+ years of work experience in software development is required.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Effective negotiation skills.  Solid organizational skills in prioritizing work.  Initiative in pursuing information to ensure complete specifications.  Wisdom in establishing deadlines for project specifications gathering, system testing, and delivery.  It is critical to have a solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) and knowledge of software implementation best practices including Scrum.  Prior work experience with direct reports is a plus.  Helpful technology experience would be:  ASP/ASP.NET, C#, MVC, Object Oriented Design/Development, VB/VB.NET, Agile/SCRUM, JavaScript/jQuery/jSON, Knockout.js, Angular.js, HTML 5, SQL Server, SQL/XML, Emerging Microsoft technologies.  Working Hours:  9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Some overtime work as needed.
