Job Description

Lead and direct underwriting team in marketing and underwriting matters within assigned territory. Implement the Department plan within your team in the selection and pricing of new and renewal risks. Implement, monitor and adjust as necessary, a detailed marketing plan for your team that will ensure a 100% effort in communicating our team story and driving submission activity. Develop underwriting team by establishing, monitoring and adjusting as necessary, an annual Individual Development Plan for each underwriter.

Essential Functions:

Support Personal Lines Product Team Leader with leading and directing underwriting staff in Marketing and Underwriting matters within assigned territory.

Underwriting: Underwrite new business submissions in accordance with delegated underwriting authority and established guidelines.  As Assistant Team Leader, provide direction to team via periodic meetings and communication sufficient to ensure each team member understands our underwriting guidelines. Conduct quarterly audits of a random set of 5 files per underwriter, and all “amount subject” files for the Region, to verify compliance. Marketing: Create and maintain positive relationships with customers via team marketing concept, including visitation, and telemarketing activities.  Develop and implement an annual marketing plan that will ensure that we make a 100% effort to produce the business we want. Underwriting Service: Direct and lead underwriting staff in the effort to process customer requests for quotes, re-quotes, endorsements, review and approve audits, inspections, endorsements, cancellations/reinstatements within timeframes necessary for team to meet established service standards. Customer Management: Direct the evaluation of production for each state and individual customers within each state and adjust Marketing plans accordingly to ensure that 100% effort is made to produce the business we want. Performance Management: Participate in interviewing new underwriting candidates. Provide continuous and timely feedback (both praise and correction) relative to daily performance. Establish, monitor and adjust when necessary, annual Individual Development Plan for each underwriter. Leadership: Set a daily example for all in striving to meet our Community Goals. Be 100% accountable for the performance of your team. Education: Enroll and complete continuing education program for both professional and personal development as outlined in annual training and development plan

Specific Skills:

Strong leadership skills, analytical skills, organizational skills, oral, written and presentation skills as well as the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: College Degree or 5+ years prior underwriting experience required. CPCU, ASLI, RPLU, INS or other related course work preferred. Experience: 5+ years prior underwriting experience required Working Conditions: Available to travel overnight as required to maintain customer visitation schedule.
