Job Description
Coaching and mentoring a team of direct reports who are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining systems at USLI.  
Build a strong team by coaching and developing direct reports relative to daily performance.  
Build relationships with their team members enabling collaboration on Individual Development Plans for professional and technical growth and goals
Develop team members by building relationships through regular 1:1s and periodic reviews.  
Create a team environment that attracts and energizes a team, while encouraging feedback.
Responsible for helping their team improve communication and interpersonal skills as well as technical skills.  
Interact with other people leaders to identify development opportunities for their team members to enable learning and improve efficiency.  
Help team members learn to prioritize their workload and guide them so they ensure that requests for enhancements are clearly understood, in scope, and consistent with the company’s goals.
Collaborate with leadership team to identify creative solutions for process enhancements
Work closely with the community and sometimes customers and customer’s customers to answer questions, analyze and discuss requests, communicate current status reports, gather necessary specifications, and communicate scope of projects.  
Set a daily example for the entire Information Technology Team in striving to meet our Community Goals.  
Create relationships with others outside of IT and learn the business
Understand and encourage team members to follow team fundamentals when delivering systems to the community and our customers.  
Support our software development best practices and encourage team members to embrace programming design discipline.  
Participate in interviewing new developer candidates, including college help candidates.  
Communicate scope and commitments.  
Encourage and assist each developer in learning insurance and the USLI business model.  
Encourage and assist each developer in learning emerging technologies.  

College degree/technical certifications OR equivalent industry/technical experience. 6+ years of work experience in software development and direct reports leadership is required.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.    Strong analytical mindset that can recognize issues and opportunities.  Solid organizational skills in prioritizing work.    It is critical to have a solid understanding of software implementation best practices.  Helpful technology experience would be:  ASP/ASP.NET, C#, JavaScript/jQuery/jSON, SQL Server.  Working Hours:  9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Some overtime work as needed.
