Your Role: In this position, you will oversee a team of commercial property claims professionals, guiding their development and ensuring claims are handled consistently, efficiently and with high quality. You will manage complex, high-exposure claims, guide coverage, investigation, reserving and settlement, and serve as a key escalation point for critical decisions. The role also includes ensuring compliance with reinsurance reporting, responding to regulatory inquiries and partnering with underwriting to support product development and overall portfolio health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Lead administrative functions including hiring, training, performance management, salary administration and employee development, while applying Leadership with Heart principles

  • Claims oversight: Assign and oversee commercial property claims, providing direction on coverage, investigation, reserving and overall claim evaluation

  • Decision-making: Authorize reserves and settlements beyond examiner authority and approve full or partial claim denials

  • Complex claim management: Participate in complex claim conferences with the head of property claims and manage high-exposure, complex files

  • Reinsurance compliance: Review and escalate reinsurance notices for approval and ensure adherence to reporting guidelines

  • Performance management: Drive timely claim resolution to achieve a 100% closing ratio and monitor files in appraisal and mediation

  • Service excellence: Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, agents, attorneys and policyholders regarding coverage and claim status

  • Regulatory response: Prepare formal responses to Department of Insurance (DOI) consumer inquiries

  • Collaboration: Partner with underwriting on product development and product health by sharing insights on claim trends, venues, statutes and case law that impact profitability

What You’ll Bring:

  • Property expertise: Strong knowledge of coverage application, claim handling and jurisdictional issues that affect outcomes

  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Leadership: Strong leadership and interpersonal abilities

  • Organization: Proven organizational and time management skills

  • Analysis: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Qualifications:

  • Education: College degree or equivalent industry-specific designation or experience

  • Experience: Five or more years of commercial claims handling experience preferred

  • Industry knowledge: Professional designations such as CPCU, AEI, RPLU or AIC preferred

  • Leadership background: Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
