Your Role: This role is responsible for leading and developing Business Development team members in the Western part of the country, while driving profitable growth through strong relationships with retail customers. The position focuses on increasing new submissions and premium by developing the team, owning and executing sales strategies, identifying new business opportunities and collaborating with underwriting teams to achieve company objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and development: Provide effective leadership, coaching, training and development for assigned Business Development team members
  • Sales and growth strategy: Drive new submissions, quotes and premium growth through ownership of assigned territories and customer relationships
  • Customer relationship management: Build, nurture and maintain strong relationships with retail customers, including agency principals
  • Territory management: Identify, prospect and develop new retail customers through travel and outreach
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Partner with underwriting teams to align strategy and coordinate efforts
  • Market intelligence: Provide feedback on competitor activity and market trends
  • Business planning: Develop and execute strategic plans for assigned territories
  • Customer engagement: Organize and participate in customer events and company initiatives
  • Operational excellence: Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner

What You’ll Bring:

  • Underwriting expertise: Knowledge of commercial property and casualty, personal insurance or professional liability underwriting
  • Analytical skills: Strong critical-thinking and decision-making abilities
  • Communication skills: Ability to clearly articulate underwriting decisions and build relationships
  • Team mindset: Positive, self-motivated and collaborative approach in a fast-paced environment
  • Business acumen: Understanding of market conditions, risk evaluation and insurance fundamentals
  • Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to changing business needs

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience: Proven track record of successfully planning and executing customer travel — with demonstrated success in testing and interviewing processes
  • Certifications (preferred): Insurance designations (CPCU, RPLU)
